It is so exciting to hear birth news of a rare species, especially that of an endangered one.
This week, the Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey breed got some big news, as a new baby was born at the ZooParc de Beauval in France.
The rare primate, also known as a Roxellana Rhinopithecus Snub-Nosed Monkey, was born less than a year after one male and two females were transferred to ZooParc de Beauval in April 2025.
According to a new video from @brutamerica, ZooParc de Beauval Zoo director Rodolphe Delord described the birth as a strong symbol of species conservation and of ties between France and China.
See, this is the first birth of a Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey in a zoo outside of Asia, as this species is primarily found in the mountain ranges of southwestern China.
In the video, we see this adorable little baby monkey, with an almost ghost-like appearance, being cuddled by his parents and carried in his mother's pouch.
Could he be cuter?
Though you may be distracted by the cuteness, it's worth remembering that Golden Snub-Nosed Monkeys are endangered mainly because of habitat loss and fragmentation.
Deforestation is the main reason they are losing their homes, followed by illegal hunting until the 1980s, as these monkeys were killed for their fur and meat, as well as for traditional medicine.
According to The Nature Conservancy, only around 3,000 Golden Snub-Nosed Monkeys remain in the wild.
Though they are protected in nature reserves throughout China, this species needs help, which is why the birth of this baby in France is so important.
